　　Earth Day was first observed in Spring of 1970. An estimated 20 million people nationwide attended festivities out of which came the largest grassroots environmental movement in U.S. history, and the impetus for national legislation like the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts. By the twentieth anniversary of that event, April 22, 1990, more than 200 million people in 141 countries participated in Earth Day celebrations.

　　Former U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day's co-founder, modeled Earth Day on anti-Vietnam War demonstrations, called "teach-ins," that were common on college campuses. "At a conference in Seattle in September 1969, I announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration on behalf of the environment," says Nelson. "The response was electric. Telegrams, letters, and telephone inquiries poured in from all across the country." As many as 20 million Americans participated in environmental rallies, demonstrations and other activities in the 1970 Earth Day.

　　Since the first Earth Day, however, the environmental movement has increasingly transformed itself from a largely grassroots, citizen crusade to a professionally-organized, established special interest.

　　World Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd, which is a day to call for people around the world to protect the environment. Look at the change of environment in the past decades. If we don’t make a contribution to bringing the world green, then we don’t live the good life.

　　4月22日是世界地球日，這個節日是為了號召全世界人民保護環境。看看過去幾十年里環境的變化，如果我們不做出貢獻，讓世界變綠，那么我們就過不上好日子了。

　　The pollution is happening everywhere. For example, the river in my hometown, when I was very small, people could wash their clothes and go swimming in it, or we could see fish clearly. But now, the water is very dirty and there are a lot of rubbish around the river. What’ more, the area of river has become smaller. Every time when I see this bad change, I feel so pity.

　　污染到處都有。例如，我家鄉的河，在我很小的時候，人們可以在里面洗衣服，游泳，我們還可以清楚地看到魚在里面游來游去。但是現在，河水變得很臟，河里有很多垃圾。而且，河流的面積變小了。每次看到這種不好的'變化，我都感到很遺憾。

　　The result of the pollution of the environment is the disappearance of animals. Some animals become rare and are dying out. It is known to all that animals and human being are part of nature. We live together. If animals disappear, we don’t live for long. Protecting the environment is saving our offspring.

　　環境污染的結果是動物的消失。有些動物很稀有，在瀕臨滅絕。眾所周知，動物和人類是大自然的一部分，我們生活在一起。如果動物消失了，那么我們也活不了多久。保護環境就是保護我們的后代。

　　The earth is our home, the environment is closely related to our life. Humans consume enormous amounts of water resources and environmental pollution, have a beautiful earth destroyed not decent. Water gradually less, plants and animals endangered... All this because human don't pay attention to protecting the environment.

　　People cut down trees everywhere, and now the world average cut 11 million hectares of forest a year, this is such a big number! People with throw garbage, the floating on the river stinking garbage, the dirty plastic bags hung on the branches, the dark skin and confetti were  piled on the grass. Have done great damage to environment, river, forest green, blue sky has disappeared, the earth is destroyed gradually, humans also gradually die.

　　Originally, the earth has a clear brook, green forest, the blue sky. Ancient times, how many poets praising the earth beautiful environment! Human is maker of environmental disaster and environmental disaster victims, more should be an environmental disaster prevention.
